Contractors Engineering Manager

BAM Transportation, Rail Division are recruiting a Contractors Engineering Manager (CEM)/ Design Delivery Manager (DDM), based in Cardiff to deliver the development of the Main Cardiff station.
Reporting to the Regional Rail Engineering lead, you’ll play a key role working closely with our Rail Design and Engineering Team, currently delivering the redevelopment of the mainline station at Cardiff for our client Transport for Wales. The role includes the overall responsibility for all engineering activities within a design and/or construction organisation for a contract as applicable to a project, including any interdisciplinary checks.
The established Engineering & Design Management team needs a CEM/DDM lead for the multidisciplinary project to take it through the detailed design process and into construction through to hand back in a phased manner for this highly prestigious project in the Wales and western region.
Your team
- You will be based in the Cardiff region and need to maintain close liaison on site with our established site teams and the client.

Key Accountabilities:
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to the safety and health framework, policies and management system requirements and expectations
- Ensure the engineering organisation within a project/contract complies with the project/contract requirements and is sufficient to deliver the specified work to the correct engineering standards and requirements.
- Appoint, manage and lead all the CREs & RDEs and engineering activity within the delivery/design teams as appropriate to the scope of the project. Ensure competence and mentorship requirements are met with.
- Liaise with the Network Rail Designated Project Engineers/TfW representatives, as appropriate
- Control all multi-discipline issues within a project ensuring that all issues are considered for effective programming and coordination of work.
- Review any alterations to standards for impact against project/contract deliverables and advise the client. Alterations to the project/contract scope to be briefed to all engineers once action is agreed.
- Monitor compliance to standards and raise non-compliances if required.
- Control the Technical Query process to ensure all scope clarifications consider all disciplines and that all disciplines are aware of any changes.
- Ensure Audit and Surveillance is carried out in accordance with the project/contract and company requirements. Any corrective actions raised to be managed through to closure.
- Contribute to the handover process following contract award, to input a clear view of the work scope and intentions of the designed solutions
What do you bring to the role?
- Qualified to Chartered level or equivalent of experienced CRE
- Membership of Professional Engineering Institution
- Extensive experience engineering management on rail infrastructure
- Knowledge of design procedures and standards
- Ability to work in a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment
