Apprentice HVAC Engineer

Building a sustainable tomorrow

To support BAM in delivering safe, compliant, and high-quality building maintenance services across client sites. The Apprentice HVAC Engineer will assist in the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance, in line with SFG20 standards, statutory compliance, and BAM operational procedures, while completing a structured apprenticeship programme.

Making Possible

 

 

Maintenance Delivery
•    Support the delivery of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks in line with SFG20 and BAM maintenance regimes
•    Assist in reactive repairs and fault finding on HVAC systems
•    Work on a range of equipment including:  Air Handling Units (AHUs),  Fan Coil Units (FCUs), Split, VRV/VRF air conditioning systems, Ventilation and extract systems
•    Carry out basic tasks such as: Filter replacements, Belt changes, Cleaning and inspections, Lubrication and general servicing

 

Compliance & Safe Systems of Work
•    Comply fully with BAM HSE policies, procedures, and behavioural safety standards
•    Work under the guidance of Authorised and Competent Persons
•    Follow Permit to Work (PTW) and isolation procedures where applicable
•    Support compliance with: SFG20 maintenance standards and Statutory regulations (e.g. F-Gas, Health & Safety at Work Act)
•    Ensure all works are carried out safely, minimising risk to self, others, and client assets

Quality & Performance
•    Deliver work to BAM’s quality and performance standards
•    Ensure tasks are completed within agreed SLAs/KPIs
•    Support the achievement of contract compliance and audit readiness
•    Maintain high standards of housekeeping in plant rooms and work areas

Customer & Client Engagement
•    Represent BAM in a professional and customer-focused manner
•    Support engineers in liaising with clients, site teams, and stakeholders
•    Promote BAM’s reputation for service excellence and reliability

Learning & Development
•    Actively participate in a recognised HVAC / Building Services Apprenticeship
•    Develop knowledge of: 
o    HVAC systems and building services
o    SFG20 compliance and maintenance structures
o    CAFM systems (e.g. Concept / Maximo / Plan on where used)
•    Work towards relevant qualifications, including: 
o    NVQ Level 2/3 in Building Services / HVAC
o    F-Gas certification (as progress allows)

Documentation & Systems
•    Assist with accurate completion of: 
o    Work orders and job sheets
o    Maintenance records
o    Compliance documentation
•    Use BAM CAFM/mobile systems to record work and update asset information
•    Report defects, risks, and follow-up actions promptly

Your team

•    Working across BAM client sites such as: 
o    Commercial buildings
o    Healthcare (NHS)
o    Education
o    Public sector environments
•    May involve: 
o    Working at height
o    Plant rooms and confined spaces
o    Travel between sites (mobile roles)

What do you bring to the role?

•    Strong interest in engineering / HVAC / building services
•    Willingness to learn and develop within a structured apprenticeship
•    Good communication and teamwork skills
•    Basic understanding of health & safety awareness
•    Reliable, punctual, and professional attitude

Desirable
•    GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths, English, and Science
•    Basic knowledge or exposure to mechanical/electrical systems
•    Previous experience (school, college, or work placement) in engineering
