Regional Lifting Appointed Person

BAM UK & Ireland is recruiting a Regional Lifting Appointed Person to join the Northern and Scotland Construction segments. This position will involve travel across North of England & Scotland.
This role will provide regional leadership, governance, and assurance for all lifting operations across the North & Scotland portfolio. Act as regional technical lead for lifting, tower crane operations, contract lifting, and subcontractor lifting activities. Drive best practice, ensure legal compliance, support tendering and planning processes, and represent the region within national lifting governance groups.
Making Possible
• Act as the Appointed Person (AP) for lifting under LOLER and BS 7121.
• Lead the regional planning and control regime across all lifting operations. Developing a consistent approach to lifting across the region to enable best practise.
• Set, maintain, and audit lifting standards, procedures, and permits; ensure alignment with BAM policies, CDM, and applicable legislation.
• Represent the two regions at NLAG, participating in regional and cross regional incident and near miss reviews.
• Participate in national technical authority groups to standardise BAM lifting procedures and policy.
• Produce, review, and approve Lift Plans, Method Statements, and Risk Assessments.
• Work with project teams to coordinate with Temporary Works for crane platforms, mats, and working platforms; ensure design checks and sign offs are in place.
• Lead technical reviews for unusual or high risk lifts
• Appoint and brief competent Lifting Supervisors, Slinger/Signallers, and Operators; verify CPCS/NPORS and experience for task complexity.
• The AP must collect all required lifting information in advance, brief visiting APs on BAM policies, review third‑party lift plans, and be present during the lift to complete pre‑lift checks, verify compliance, and ensure the lift is carried out as planned.
• Ensures subcontractor lifting plans and operations are safe and compliant.
• Act as the regional Tower Crane Appointed Person, providing tender‑stage input, producing lift plans, and coordinating schedules with subcontractors. Ensure daily LOLER checks, manage exclusion zones and accessories, and offer ongoing site support for safe day‑to‑day crane operations.

What do you bring to the role?
• Appointed Person (Lifting Operations): CPCS A61 (or NPORS equivalent) with substantial Regional AP experience.
• Strong knowledge of LOLER, PUWER, BS 7121 series, CDM Regulations, and lifting related Temporary Works.
• Proven experience reviewing and coordinating complex lifts, subcontractor operations, and contract lifting.
• Competence in ground bearing calculations, crane configuration selection, exclusion zone planning and hazard control. (overhead/underground services, public interfaces).
• Experience mentoring Lifting Supervisors, Slinger/Signallers, and Operators; effective contractor management.
• Proficient with digital planning tools (e.g. BIM/4D, CAD mark ups), document control systems, and data dashboards.
Desirable
• Practical background as a slinger/signaller and lifting supervisor.
• Experience carrying out incident/near miss investigations.
• Engineering or construction HNC/HND/Degree (or equivalent experience).
• Temporary Works awareness (TWC/TWS familiarity).
• Experience in healthcare, education, and complex city centre logistics projects.
Travel & Working Pattern
• Frequent regional travel to live projects and pre con meetings; occasional overnight stays.
• Flexible working with site presence aligned to critical lift planning and execution windows.
