BAM UK and Ireland is recruiting a Commercial Director to join the London Construction Segment.
The Commercial Director is a senior role that will report to the Sector/Regional Director and have a matrix reporting line into the Segment Commercial Director for Construction. This role will be part of the Sector/Regional senior leadership team and will lead the formulation and achievement of the commercial strategy, supporting both the divisional and segment purpose, vision, mission, and overall objectives.

The intent for this role is to drive greater emphasis on commercial performance across the business, minimising risk and driving profitable and sustainable project delivery.
The Commercial Director will support other leadership roles in increasing the focus of work winning on key accounts. Leading a team of Commercial Managers and Estimators, the Commercial Director will be responsible for commercial governance, risk management, and maximising financial performance. The Commercial Director owns the Sector/Region's commercial strategy, with a prioritisation of profitability over revenue. This focus is required throughout the stage gates, from winning work through to completion. The Commercial Director must ensure that profit potential is maximised on every project through effective cost control, value management, and risk mitigation.
The Commercial Director will be expected to create a culture where cost and value are managed effectively, with necessary corrective measures to ensure overruns and risks are tackled immediately. The role is accountable for ensuring that potential risks, claims, and commercial disputes are minimised or identified early and managed proactively, while motivating teams and collaborators and being results-oriented.
Key Activities
• Work in collaboration with Finance to prepare Monthly and Quarterly Forecast reports.
• Track, measure and analyse commercial metrics using KPIs and BAM reporting tools.
• Always strive to accelerate and encourage Business Unit profitability and success.
• Implement and align Commercial Processes throughout the Region, ensuring compliance with legislation and BAM policies and procedures.
• Provide commercial direction and leadership to operational commercial staff, ensuring the Region adheres to BAM standards and processes.
• Support key strategic decision-making and develop commercial models to support the business direction, including new and existing core markets.
• Undertake strategic risk reviews and monitor close-out of mitigating actions, providing direction and leadership to
operational staff.
• Collaborate with the Divisional Legal team to ensure Contract Reviews are completed as required under the BAM Baseline for acquiring work.
Your team
Leading a team of Commercial Managers and Estimators within the London Construction business. This role will involve a mixture of working from the London office and home. BAM Operate a flexible working policy.

What do you bring to the role?
• You will be an experienced Commercial professional, with previous experience in operating at a senior level.
• A commitment to continued self-development, such as attending short courses and seminars or being a member of a relevant professional body (for example, the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES) or Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE)), is valued and encouraged, but not essential for this role
• Educated to degree level or alternative as appropriate for the role
• Experience working within the built environment or associated industries
• Experience of leading and managing people and organisational development
• Experience in developing and executing business strategies at an appropriate level required for the role
• Experience leading and collaborating within teams to achieve common goals and foster high performance
• Well-developed analytical, oral and presentation/communication skills
• The ability to formulate commercial plans and create engagement and commitment to deliver
• The ability to inspire and motivate people
• Excellent relationship building and communication skills, capable of consulting and collaborating with key players and teams at all levels within the business
• Ability to multi-task and provide focus, direction and solutions where required
• High level of IT systems awareness to be able to operate SAP, Stage Gate, SharePoint and all bespoke reporting applications
• Ability to understand, demonstrate and embed the BAM values
