BAM UK & Ireland division is recruiting a Financial Controls Director. The FC Director plays a key role in exercising financial and business control throughout the UK&I Division, working closely with Group Finance in NL and the functional/divisional executives within the UK&I in a high-profile and demanding role. This role needs to be able to communicate effectively throughout the finance organisation and with external parties such as our auditors and HMRC. 

This position forms part of the UK&I Finance Leadership team reporting to the Executive Finance Director of the UK&I.

Making Possible

Responsible for ensuring a consistent and robust financial reporting framework is in place that reflects both the latest accounting standards and the BAM accounting guidelines and is closely monitored to drive stability, trust, differentiation and the development of a “best in class” approach to financial reporting including managing the relationship with the external auditors and ensuring all Statutory reporting is delivered to time and quality.

 

Accountabilities
This role acts as 
•    Manager of the external Audit to ensure a tightly run, best-in-class, delivered-to-time audit process planned well in advance. Critical to this is the planning and delivery of audit deliverables, and on driving the third line of defence model to all audit deliverables.
•    Leads on external reporting for the UK&I Division, including the preparation of the Statutory Accounts.
•    Overall responsibility for the delivery of effective controllership, providing technical support to local Controllers, Finance Managers, and the shared service centre teams.
•    To Create improved understanding, in Finance and the business, of the linkage between business decisions and their impact on the company’s external financial reporting.
•    To own the effective control, recharging and reporting of Company-tied-Costs (CtC) at division level and ensure robust monitoring of this.
•    To provide stewardship to safeguard the quality of the financial data to ensure a true and fair view for the Division inline with the BAM Accounting Guidelines (BAG).
•    To govern the monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting into the segments and UK&I division. 
•    Senior Leader for the Business Partnering team for Enabling Functions, driving efficiency and effectiveness.

Key activities
•    Review and ensure compliance across Audit papers including positioning papers and drive the development of a “best in class” approach. 
•    Lead on the S37 pensions for the UK&I division with the Group pensions and external parties, as necessary.
•    Give direction to Tax and Treasury teams and ensure alignment is taking place with Corporate Centre
•    Review the UK&I entities and drive the development of a “best in class” approach to financial statutory reporting.
•    Provide oversight of the Bam Accounting Guidelines for the UK&I Division and ensure knowledge and consistency of the application. 
•    To implement and monitor effective control of Company-tied-Costs (CtC) at division level and simplify and improve CtC guidance and analysis at business segment and business unit level in line with Corporate Guidelines
•    Provide guidance and leadership to the Enabling Functions Business Services team.
•    Provide support for specific business cases viewed through a finance and accounting lens.

Your team

This position will be based at our city point office – London but will be expected to travel to other UK&I and NL BAM offices.

What do you bring to the role?

•    An experience qualified accountant, with exceptional knowledge of statutory, operational accounting and business combinations accounting.
•    Working knowledge of tax / VAT compliance
•    Strong Technical accounting knowledge and experience of managing a project environment external audit.
•    Proven experience in transforming controllership functions into digitally enabled, harmonised teams.
•    An Integral leader who can role model the BAM values and behaviours
•    Previous experience of leading high-performing teams, delivering through others, leading change, and the ability to balance technical accounting knowledge with business pragmatism, reporting and controls.
•    Ability to work collaboratively with Group Finance and the NL Finance Directors to drive a collaborative approach across the triangle.
•    Previously worked in a business of scale, with a track record of developing and improving systems and processes
•    A resilient, adaptable initiative-taker with the natural gravitas to engage with senior stakeholders.
