Planning Engineer

BAM are looking to recruit for an experienced and motivated Planning Engineer to lead the planning on the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) Construction Framework. The role will require the planning of works to upgrade research stations and facilities in Antarctica including refurbishment of the existing hangar building, future renewables projects, overall replacement of the research station and move to carbon net zero stations over a 9+ years framework contract.  

 

This role is based in the BAS headquarters in Cambridge, but flexible/hybrid proposals will be considered. 

Making Possible

As a Planning Engineer, you will report directly to the Construction Manager and be responsible for the following:

  • Developing and maintaining detailed programmes in P6 and Microsoft Project from first principles including resource loading.
  • Integration and management of sub-contractor programmes with our own.
  • Assimilate and interpret information from tender and project documentation.
  • Developing scenarios to help the client and project team to optimise logistics in Antarctica.
  • Understand civil construction techniques and develop them into a working programme.
  • Coordinate with estimators and commercial teams on all programme aspects.
  • Compile concise narratives, phasing, reports and supporting documents for input into quality submissions for tenders and projects.
  • Take ownership of the programme to drive project delivery.
  • Use planning techniques and tools to communicate the programme effectively.
  • Contribute, support, and communicate programme information, risk, and commercial issues to operational teams in a variety of formats.
  • Produce and chair collaborative planning workshops with clients, operational teams, and subcontractors (depending on Project requirements).
  • Update and monitor project progress, compile reports against project and contract requirements.
  • Introduce and analyse changes in programmes and support the commercial teams.
  • Evaluate supply chain and subcontract programmes.
  • Comply with business processes and systems.
  • Maintain awareness of the latest construction techniques.

What do you bring to the role?

  • Experience within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment with a collaborative partnering approach with the customer.
  • Experience of delivering programme under the NEC form of contract in the UK market is preferable.
  • Must have at least 3 + years’ construction experience (Civils / Building) and will require the ability to communicate and manage own workload.
  • A qualification in Civil Engineering/Construction to HND level or equivalent is preferred but not essential.
  • Competent in the use of various planning software. P6 is necessary.
  • A demonstrable ability to develop, own and drive programmes.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with all parties.
  • Comfortable in presenting and client facing situations.
  • Can demonstrate experience of working closely with site construction teams and understanding of each "customer's" programme requirements.
  • A clear ability for logical thinking and working in an ordered fashion.
  • The ability to work to often challenging timescales.
  • Understanding of 4D planning techniques and software including Synchro Pro (4D)
  • Experience in producing summary construction or project control information in excel and Power BI would be an advantage.
  • Tender experience would be an advantage.
  • Good commercial and contractual acumen.
