Senior Planner

Are you an experienced Senior Planner or Planning Manager looking for your next career move? Do you have a passion for delivering large‑scale energy infrastructure projects? BAM Infrastructure is seeking a Senior Planner / Planning Manager to join our growing Energy Network team. This role will support major tenders through to live projects valued up to £500m, playing a key part in the delivery. You will be involved in the planning and delivery of critical new electricity substations and converter stations, helping to strengthen the national grid and support the UK’s renewable energy ambitions. Initially, the role will be predominantly office‑based, transitioning to site‑based working in line with project and workload requirements.
This is an exciting opportunity to take a pivotal role in shaping project programmes, while developing and managing a planning team on high‑profile projects across England and Wales.
Your team
- The position will be hybrid, based between a central office (TBC) and project sites across the southern region, generally spanning London to the Midlands.
Making Possible
- Support tenders and project teams with programme delivery and planning requirements, but also assist the Core Project and Senior Leadership Team withproviding accurate project progress and construction programme issues, including risks and opportunities, ensuring transparency and effective communication with all stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with the Project Managers, Interface and Design Managers, Construction and Commercial teams across the projects.
- Engage with key stakeholders, including the client’s site project and planning team, as well as our specialist supply chain partners.
- Develop and work with the project and planning teams to provide project controls and reporting, including earned value within the programme.
- Develop and support the project planners with reporting progress, analyse programme performance and identify risks, opportunities and mitigation measures.
- Undertake the planning role and function on projects as required.
- Support the production of change programmes and narratives aligned with the NEC/FIDIC contract procedures in a timely manner, ensuring smooth communication and contract compliance, alongside our primary processes.
- Support the development and updates of project schedules, ensuring that change control, progress tracking, and resource allocation are accurately handled throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support site specific project controls with partial responsibility in supporting the Project Controls Manager.
- Work closely with the commercial teams ensuring alignment with the commercial strategy, recovery and change management.
- Develop, train and mentor project planners.
What’s in it for you?
- Proven experience as a Planning (or Senior Planning) Engineer on large-scale energy infrastructure or similar projects.
- Expert in using Primavera P6 with a strong understanding of programme logic, resourcing and critical path management.
- NEC/FIDIC contract awareness and requirements.
- Client facing with strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate programme issues and solutions to both site teams and senior stakeholders.
- Strong site experience with a practical understanding of construction sequencing and outputs.
- Ability to lead, coach and mentor planners.
- Demonstrated ability to complete complex planning tasks, assess programme robustness, and risk (QSRA) evaluations, scrutinise and challenge supply chain schedules where necessary.
- Commercial and contractual awareness, particularly regarding cost loading, resource allocation, and risk management.
- Experience working on long-term projects, with an understanding of delivering during both early ECI, design phases and construction site completion.
- Experience working on large programmes with multiple interfaces.
- Experience working on site directly with construction teams in a collaborative manner.
Desirable Experience:
- Strong background in project planning and controls within large, multi-disciplinary teams.
- Understanding and prior experience of QSRA (Primavera Risk / Deltek Acumen Risk)
- Understanding and prior experience of 4D planning software (Synchro).
- Change management experience.
