Senior Quantity Surveyor

We are recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the team at Cardiff Central Station. The initial role will be to manage an Assistant Quantity Surveyor in the production of cost information and procurement and payment of the supply chain (survey works, temporary works design, and piling and precast design) during the design stage. Updating the risk and opportunity register, and the continued budget/pricing information to be provided to the Client monthly prior to Notice to Proceed to further Stages, coordinating with the project team, including the Estimator. Beyond the Notice to Proceed being instructed, the role will be focused on costs, risk, supply chain, and change management for a particular section/s of works.

 

Cardiff Central Station is Wales’ principal rail hub serving over 12 million passengers annually. There is a need to upgrade the station to meet the additional passenger demand whilst enhancing the passenger experience and integrating sustainable travel modes.

 

The design status is at PoW Stage C: Preliminary Design. The Contractor shall verify the Preliminary Design and progress through Detailed Design, Construction, Commissioning and Handover.

 

Works include - Northern and Southern Entrance: site clearance, M&E, building works and internal fit out, power and water supply, HV traction power alterations, demolition, brickwork, substation, earthworks, landscaping. Subway Works: water management system, cladding, lighting, and flooring. Platform Level Works: site clearance, street furniture, building works and internal fit out, permanent welfare facilities, canopy refurbishment, cleaning, and painting.

Making Possible

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Maintain high personal safety and environmental standards in accordance with Company policy
  • Maintain effective communication with the team you are working with
  • Manage, supervise, and mentor your direct reports
  • Provide commercial contact with supply chain partners through pre-contract meetings, contract vetting, and input to subcontract documents
  • Commercial management of subcontractors, including processing payments, obtaining final account agreements, and resolving disputed issues by negotiation, if appropriate
  • Ensure the timely production of reliable cost performance data
  • Assist in the production of monthly/quarterly reports
  • Be responsible for change management, including ensuring adherence to contractual timescales and notices
  • Ensure adherence to the Risk and Opportunity management protocol and advise the Management Team accordingly
  • Be responsible for the timely production of appropriate levels of applications for payments in accordance with the provisions of the conditions of contract
  • Attend and provide input to all site commercial meetings. Providing commercial advice to the site team
  • Manage time and workloads for yourself and your commercial team in a structured manner

What do you bring to the role?

The following are required:

  • Successful experience at Quantity Surveyor/Senior Quantity Surveyor level, demonstrating effective core commercial skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with the project team, including the Client, Project Managers, and Designers
  • Have the confidence and ability to work within a team environment, and to have a positive influence on outcomes
  • Willing to help and assist those around you in their development
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Excel & Microsoft Word

 

The following are desirable requirements:

  • Early Contractor Involvement experience
  • Experience in NEC3 and NEC4 forms of contract
  • Experience of target cost contracts
  • Previous MEICA experience
  • Working towards CICES membership or equivalent
