BAM UK & Ireland is recruiting an Senior Risk and Control Manager to join us in our finance department to be based out of our London office.   
 
The UK&I Senior Risk & Control Manager plays a key role in actively strengthening BAM’s ability to implement and embed the Risk and Control Agenda in an increasingly dynamic and complex environment. This role proactively supports the UK&I Risk and Control Lead (part of the Finance Leadership Team) for the UK&I Division and to move the UK&I risk and control function to an effective, insight‑driven and performance‑enabling capability aligned with Group strategy. 
 
The role is part of a small, high-skilled subject matter expert team working with diverse stakeholder groups across the UK&I Division and liaising with Group stakeholders. The Senior Manager is not an entry-level role, as can act as a deputy to the Risk and Control Lead when required. It is responsible for helping strengthen Enterprise Risk Management and proactively supporting the timely delivery and adoption of the new BAM Control Framework within UK&I, ensuring it becomes an enabler of performance, efficiency and consistency.

Key activities/responsibilities

Deployment of the BAM Control Framework 

  • Brings strong technical risk and controls expertise, acting as a trusted business partner to stakeholders and teams
  • Brings strong technical finance and controls expertise, acting as a trusted partner to stakeholders. 
  • Supports the UK&I implementation of the BAM Control Framework by participating in assigned activities and ensuring timely deployment and embedding across the division. 
  • Supports the implementation planning, training, communication and change management in collaboration with Delivery Assurance and Group teams. 
  • Helping shape and operationalise the controls framework across finance and key risk areas. 

Internal Control Maturity & Continuous Improvement 

  • Designs risk-based controls and has deep experience and understanding in financial and operational processes. 
  • Performs internal control assessments and maturity reviews specific to supporting processes, ensuring gaps are addressed in line with divisional priorities and Group expectations.
  • Leading control walkthroughs, testing and self-assessments to strengthen confidence in control design, development of processes and operations. 
  • Able to lead on control weaknesses analysis and severity impact assessments for Division and Group reporting. 
  • Identifying control gaps, prioritising remediation and supporting pragmatic, proportionate solutions. 
  • Translates control findings into targeted improvement actions that support better business performance, not just compliance.
  • Supports promoting automation, simplification and Lean thinking in controls and risk processes to reduce manual effort and increase insight quality. 

Dynamic Risk Management activities & Forward-Looking Insight

  • Comfortable with unstructured business environments on a journey to enhance maturity standards.
  • Supports the continuous enhancement of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework with experience and best practices. 
  • Supports moving the division toward dynamic risk management, including more frequent risk sensing, predictive analytics, leading indicators, and horizon scanning.
  • Understands the feedback loops of a matrix organisation (Group, Division and Segments) to support the Risk and Control Agenda.  

Strengthening the Divisional Risk Organisation 

  • Assists in cross-functional risk forums to ensure consistent assessment, prioritisation and escalation of risks.
  • Ensures the risk governance model is operating effectively, with clarity on roles, responsibilities and information flows across all business units. 

Business Partnering & Performance Enablement 

  • Proactively supports risk and control owners in simplifying complex information into clear data, trade-offs, and recommended actions.
  • Uses risk & control insights and tools to support continuous improvement and capability building across the division. 

Team management 

  • Supports, coaches and guides the less experienced team members with expertise and pragmatic approach to deliverables, acting as a first point of contact.  
  • Depending on experience, there is the prospect of managing the team directly from a BAU perspective.  

Assurance & Audit Support (tactical, not operational) 

  • Supports shifting from reactive, after-the-fact action implementation to a more proactive mindset.
  • Works with the business in addressing key assurance findings, when requested, through practical action plans aligned with risk appetite and strategic priorities.

This position is based in Central London, where travel to the office is required 2/3 days per week.

What do you bring to the role?

• Bachelor’s degree required in Finance, Risk and Business or related required. 
• Professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) is highly desirable. 
• Min of 10 years’ experience is essential in enterprise risk management, internal controls, internal or external 
assurance, projects and change management, preferably in complex or project‑driven environments, and ideally 
with acquired experience in both in-house functions and practice.  
• Experience in a similar role in a complex or project driven environment: cross-functional transformation, project 
management assurance and delivery is highly preferred. 
• Big 4 experience in business assurance and consulting is highly preferred. 
• Sound technical understanding of financial processes and control environments, preferably acquired in 
companies compliant with Corporate Governance Codes, such as Provision 29 and SOx. 
• Proven experience with ERM and internal control frameworks, controls design, implementation, test and 
reperformance (financial and non-financial). 
• Comfortable with change management, process development, training and process enhancements. 
• Comfortable with data handling, analytics and digital tools (e.g., Power BI, SAP, S4HANA, risk and control tools). 
• Broad knowledge of risk management best practices and their application in matrix organisations. 
• Able to critically identify and monitor KPIs/KRIs, helping produce dashboards and management reporting 
deliverables in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. 
• Seasoned with governance rhythms, reviewing and following up on open actions from audit/ remediation logs. 
• Confident in proposing best practice solutions and helping management in addressing control gaps and issues. 
• Strong collaborator and communicator with credibility at cross-functional mid to senior management level. 
• Exposure to construction and engineering environments is advantageous but not essential.
