KierBAM are a Joint Venture (JV) partnership between Kier and BAM UK & Ireland - BAM UK & Ireland's infrastructure segment is currently delivering the redevelopment project at a Royal Navy site located in Plymouth and is seeking a Works Manager. 


Due to the site being a high-security military naval base, additional security checks will be required – a BPSS level of security clearance is necessary. These checks can take up to 8 weeks to process. Only candidates holding EU, NATO, 5 Eyes, or MISWG member passports and who have been UK residents for the last 5 years can be considered for this role.

  • Location: Devonport Dockyard, Plymouth
  • Contract: Permanent, 42.5 hours a week

Making Possible

As a Works Manager, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Ensuring site works are planned, coordinated, and undertaken in a safe, timely and cost-efficient manner in accordance with the relevant project plans, design drawings, specification, and the programme
  • Ensuring construction operations and materials comply with project requirements
  • Controlling the short and medium-term programmes to ensure timely and economical completion
  • Ensuring that effective corrective actions are taken on identified problems
  • Liaising with the Construction Manager and delivery teams regarding construction activities
  • Providing health and safety leadership to operational delivery teams
  • Supporting the General Foreman to work safely in accordance with assessed construction risks and adherence with the control measures defined in Work Package Plans and Task Briefs
  • Providing necessary support to enable the project environmental risks, objectives and targets are met
  • Compliance with all project documentation for the application of legislation
  • Managing the General Foreman, Foreman, Site Supervisors, and other assigned resources
  • Promoting and maintaining effective client and stakeholder relationships to protect and enhance the 
    company’s reputation to enable repeat business
  • Upholding the core company values, inspiring and encouraging the same throughout the team
  • Supporting the Project Manager/Agent in defining the efficient and effective planning of the works 
    (methodology) and plant and labour resources
  • Ensuring the timely ordering and delivery of all plant and equipment appropriate for safe delivery of 
    the works and is secured and maintained effectively
  • Overseeing blue collar recruitment and ensuring SQEP compliance for all operatives
  • From time to time, you may be required by the Company to perform other tasks, which are not included in the above description, but are within your capabilities and, where 
    necessary, training, and full support will be given

What do you bring to the role?

  • HNC (Construction related) or Level 6 NVQ Construction Site Management.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and practical application of site construction activities and management of staff, operatives, and subcontractors within regulated sectors. 
  • Gold Supervisors or Black Managers Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
  • Site Manager Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS).
